put your presents where your politics are

i neglected to post this inspirational tale earlier, and that's unfortunate. ic feminists and ic fair trade are partnering up to try and get sweatshop-free clothing in the bookstore. lou, pres of ic fem of course, has been proclaiming the wonderful motto of "put your presents where your politics are."
a couple of weeks ago, on student appreciation day at the bookstore, she was presented with a free sweatshirt. on the radio, lou asked where it was made, noted that it was from pakistan, and declined the prize.
made props to her on that one.

so now, i'm pleased to say that i have been encountering this philosophy in action. bryan (having heard a lot about this jazz) gave me earrings from ten thousand villages which are not only fabulously fun, but fair trade!

they're made in kenya by disabled artisans. these artists receive housing and education while making recycled soda can and wire jewelry.

put your presents where your politics are, and you'll give and recieve proudly.
