"George Bush doesn't care about black people." click here to watch the video of Kanye West's statements. while i think that it is important to get the word out on this subject, kanye's emotional and inarticulate rant on the matter caused quite the stir and perhaps did not reach its audiences as effectly as it needed to be. while this specific comment was edited out of the broadcast before airing on the west coast, viewers watching live felt a sense of shock upon hearing his accusations.
what we must ask ourselves though is how much of it is true? although new orleans is predominantly inhabited by blacks, why is it that suffering black people are all that we see on the news? and even more disturbing, how is it that in america in 2005 racism could find its way into such a tragedy?
these pictures, which did not take long to pop up allover the internet, (1, 2, 3) further heat up the controversy at hand. what is our government doing about this? and why is it being shaped as a 3rd world tragedy?
