can't i just stay a toys'r'us kid?

no, because even they are going bankrupt. bahhhhumbug.

okay, so i'm definitely going to apply for teach for america. this is the only prospect i know for sure. i was looking up oodles of stuff last night, and continued to feel increasinly discouraged by life. as if trying to find a career with 0 experience isn't enough, it's also fun to know that future plans threaten a relationship i hold dear. way to go, life. i appreciate.

but in any case, stacey is also going to be applying. perhaps we'll pick the same cities, perhaps fate will shine on us. we shall see. and of course, they're trying to expand to austin, but haven't yet. not helpful. the next few months are not going to be stress-free, i'm afraid.

hope u are all having (a) good holiday(s)
let's remember to be thankful for what counts, at this time of the year and always.

i feel it inappropriate to switch to an ooh ahh consumerism! moment at this time, but i'd like to show you all the phone i believe i may be returning my christmas gift phone for:

mp3 player and a phone whaaaat

don't worry, it'll still be huge.

but seriously everyone, be warm in body and heart.

put your presents where your politics are

i neglected to post this inspirational tale earlier, and that's unfortunate. ic feminists and ic fair trade are partnering up to try and get sweatshop-free clothing in the bookstore. lou, pres of ic fem of course, has been proclaiming the wonderful motto of "put your presents where your politics are."
a couple of weeks ago, on student appreciation day at the bookstore, she was presented with a free sweatshirt. on the radio, lou asked where it was made, noted that it was from pakistan, and declined the prize.
made props to her on that one.

so now, i'm pleased to say that i have been encountering this philosophy in action. bryan (having heard a lot about this jazz) gave me earrings from ten thousand villages which are not only fabulously fun, but fair trade!

they're made in kenya by disabled artisans. these artists receive housing and education while making recycled soda can and wire jewelry.

put your presents where your politics are, and you'll give and recieve proudly.
